Communication within the organization has always been a problem. Whether it is from directors down, worker-bees up, or across units, we just can’t seem to communicate to every one’s liking. Either it is not convenient or not accessible…one way or another, it just doesn’t work.
Noting how connected ZendCon was this year (Twitter, IRC, wiki, blogs, etc), we came back with a sense of hope that some how, we could help the communication of the organization through the use of technology (I know what you are thinking…why would the Office of Information TECHNOLOGY what to use TECHNOLOGY to communicate? Weird, I know).
Anyway, so when we get back, we discover that one of our new hires brought up the idea of using Twitter to communicate. Our immediate response was “ZOMG! We gotta talk to this dude”, so we did and his name is John. He is a long time user of Twitter and swears that he has blogged every day for like the last 5 years.
So with John’s help, we have started a grassroots effort to try to use Twitter to tag our daily work. Just so our folksonomy remains the same, we are using “#ncsu_oit” as our hash tag. You can also follow @ncsu_oit if you wanna. So give it a whirl, or a twhirl, and join us for some lively discussion.
